July Updates

Howdy, folks! It’s the last Tuesday of the month, and that means time for an update on the State of the Cori.

On the writing front, things have been going well. My big bang story was published with a very cute accompanying piece of art and I’ve gotten some lovely feedback on it. As per usual, it’s also driven up kudos and comments on some of my other existing fic, so that’s been a nice little source of warm fuzzies for the last little bit.

Ember of the Dragons is proceeding apace. I’m sticking quite well to my 1,000 words a day goal–although I went on a few trips this month, so there weren’t as many writing days. But I wrapped up chapter fifteen this morning and as of today am sitting at 41,161 words, which is not too shabby. The story is outlined for twenty-eight chapters, so I feel like I am right on track. Also, I’ve gotten to the part where new people show up on the island so there is once more dialogue, huzzah!

While I’ve only barely dipped my toes into blanket knitting waters this month, and anticipate I might not finish the July sections in July, I have finished a few other projects.

[Heads up, all pattern links go to Ravelry.]

For my Year of Gnomes, meet Gnemo, from the Gnome is Where You Hang Your Hat pattern. My daughter declared his very tall hat “intimidating.”
Here’s the whole Year of Gnomes group so far, from January through July!
They decided to welcome Gnemo and celebrate getting through over half the year with a game night, playing the ever delightful Roll For It.
Finally, I just put the finishing touches on Gnola of Grimblewood today. She is a force to be reckoned with, already.

Wrapping up, I’m not sure if I’ve played any Dragon Age at all this month–at least not the video game version. I did lead a really fun RPG session set in that world for two of my friends. We all had fun breaking each other’s brains. Good times.

What I have been doing, however, is playing ALL OF THE ANIMAL CROSSING. Specifically, I’ve been spending a LOT of time with the Happy Home Paradise DLC. For those not in the know, it’s an expansion to the main game wherein you go to a different island and design vacation homes for any number of the game’s pool of villagers.

Reader. I find this VERY soothing. The DLC originally came out in November, but I haven’t ever really been able to spend as much time on it as I would like–until I realized I could totally play this on plane rides (oh my gosh it made flying SO MUCH easier). Then, after my first trip this month, where I hit most of the story milestones, I realized if I changed the time of day I normally play the game, I could usually squeeze in at least one home design on most days. So. Lots of vacation homes being designed. It’s nice. I figured I’d finish off this post by sharing some of my favorites with you, so enjoy, and take care until next time!

[Also, if you do play and want to follow my designs, my Happy Home Network ID is: RA-9212-7067-8103]

“Flurry’s House of Flurries”
“A Thrill-Seeker’s Hideaway” for Static. (Y’all KNOW I had to make a place for my favorite squirrel.)
“Marina’s Underwater Palace”
“My Hide-and-Seek Jungle” for Sly.
